Austin has a lot of group-based fitness options, but in reality most people end up rotating between a handful of places. These are some of the more common ones you’ll hear about or see people going to regularly.
1. Black Swan Yoga
Black Swan is a donation-based yoga studio with multiple locations in Austin. Classes are usually pretty full, and the style is more fast-paced and music-driven than traditional yoga. It’s one of the easier places to just drop in without overthinking it.
2. Kuya (South Lamar)
Kuya is a sauna and cold plunge spot on South Lamar. People usually go for recovery, but a lot of people also just hang out there for a bit. It’s pretty simple hot, cold, repeat.
3. The Morning Jo’s Run Club (South Congress)
This group meets at Jo’s Coffee on South Congress and runs around Lady Bird Lake. It’s a casual run club, and most people stick around after for coffee. Easy to join, no real barrier to entry.
4. Onnit Academy (South Austin)
Onnit is a gym focused on kettlebells, steel maces, and functional training. Classes are structured and a bit different from a standard gym workout. If you like coached sessions instead of working out on your own, it’s a good option.
5. YTX Austin (Downtown)
YTX is a yoga studio downtown with a mix of heated and non-heated classes. The space is clean and modern, and it tends to attract people who live or work nearby.
6. Crux Climbing Center (South Austin)
Crux is a climbing gym with bouldering, rope climbing, and a training area. It’s a pretty common spot if you’re into climbing or want something different from lifting or classes.
7. Barton Springs Pool (Zilker Park)
Barton Springs is a natural spring-fed pool that stays cold year-round. People swim laps, cool off, or use it after workouts. It’s one of the more consistent outdoor spots in the city.
8. Castle Hill Fitness (Clarksville)
Castle Hill is a larger gym that offers weights, classes, and personal training. It’s a straightforward option if you want a full gym setup in a central location.
9. Bouldin Acres
Bouldin Acres is a spot with pickleball courts, lawn games, and food and drinks. People go there to play and hang out. It’s more social than workout-focused.
10. Swift Fit Events
Swift Fit is an organization that hosts fitness events and group workouts around Austin. They don’t have a single location you can find their schedule and events on their website and show up to whatever fits.
